Ici on parle francais --- OR ELSE!!! The closest equivalent in the US I can think of would be the Marlins hiring of Ozzie Guillen as manager in part because he speaks Spanish. Should a local or state government in the US try this sort of influence, there would be deafening screams of racism. Montreal seems to fire all of the decent coaches they have had over the past several years, and the replacements for them have seldom been an improvement. Mais non, Canadiens, you may not have Claude Julien back.

Francophone Quebec is not quite a parallel situation. Actually, I'd say it's rather a long way from a parallel situation.

There are a core of radical French "leaders" in Quebec who feel their own culture and people are superior to all others. These people are in the minority and don't speak for most Canadiens hockey fans who feel their sport is more important than some fake elitist agenda.

The government of Quebec is less-than-enthusiastic about the Canadiens' new coach
