Rangers Beat Rays, Advance to ALCS: Adrian Beltre hit three solo homers and Ian Kinsler added a fourth in a 4-3 Texas Rangers victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Beltre's only the sixth player to hit three home runs in a postseason game. The Rangers will begin play in the American League Championship Series on Saturday. In other playoff games, the Philadelphia Phillies held off the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 to take a 2-1 series lead, A.J. Burnett pitched well as the New York Yankees bombed the Detroit Tigers 10-1 to tie their series at two, and the Arizona Diamondbacks crushed the Milwaukee Brewers 8-1 and now trail 2-1 in the series.

I had a bizarre experience at this game. I was sitting close to home plate behind the fancy upholstered seats the Trop calls the Home Run Club. A thirtysomething woman in that section was behaving erratically, repeatedly getting up to ask people if empty seats were taken, and she started to catch hell from the fans for blocking their view.

After a bunch of people told her to sit down -- including me by this point -- she and the woman accompanying her decide the proper response is to engage in a wildly demonstrative makeout session.

Fans around me start yelling at her to think of the children -- two pre-teen boys are sitting behind them -- and a couple of men make some nasty anti-gay remarks like "which one of you is the man?" One of the women yells, "I have a son! I have a son! It's a free world!" and they suck face harder to make the crowd madder.

The women keep looking back to draw a response. This doesn't work on me -- don't want no trouble, enraged amorous lesbians -- but it gets them into an argument with an older couple right behind them. This couple turns out to be Johnny Damon's parents.

In other news, the Rangers won 4-3.

Baseball really does bring the nation together. Clearly protesting Southwest Airlines.

Also, I used the phrase "suck face" like two days ago. Is it a legacy from On Golden Pond for you as well?

The run-along cameraman on Beltre's first homer did a faceplant and pieces of his camera flew off, much to the amusement of the Trop crowd.

You've guessed correctly, you old poop.

This is obviously a fantastic time to be a pro ballplayer. Not only is the pay excessive, but there are evidently many more potential opportunities to become a sperm donor than previously thought.

The Rays were a game under .500 in September when playing anyone that wasn't the collapsing Red Sox or disinterested Yankees. They just got beat by a better team.

Did not expect Burnett to hold the Tigers to a run. Hopefully Fister pitches like he did all September, otherwise the Tigers are in trouble.
