Cardinals Beat Cliff Lee, Even Series: Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee lost his third straight postseason start, giving up five runs and 12 hits in a 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals that evens their divisional series at one. The Detroit Tigers also evened their series with a 5-3 win over the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-4 to take a 2-0 series lead on the road.
As much as I give La Russa crap for overmanaging, he made (more or less) all the right moves last night. A quick hook on Carpenter was totally warranted (he just did not have it, and likely should not have gone on 3 days rest for the first time in his career), and the bullpen moves played out well. Questionable decision to use 4 relievers in the 8th and be down to one pitcher in the pen (not to mention any criticisms of wasting pitchers on one batter), but in retrospect the gamble obviously worked.

Man, that was a hell of a 6th inning in the Brewers/Dbacks game. Ziegler couldn't get a strike to save his life. And boy, did we take advantage.

I turned this game off at 4-0 thinking...
No one is safe turning anything off at any time during the current period we're in.
The phrase "mounting a comeback" has taken on a whole new dimension that has nothing whatsoever to do with Ron Jeremy.
Who knows how long the madness will last? If it continues until the Little Sisters of the Poor beat Ohio State, I'll be satisfied.

I turned this game off at 4-0 thinking Cliff Lee had it in the bag.
