Mikey Mo hangs 'em up.: After 22 years in the NHL, all but one spent with the Stars franchise (both pre- and post-move), Mike Modano has signed a one-day contract with Dallas and will formally announce his retirement tomorrow. With career totals of 561 goals and 1,374 points, Modano retires as the most prolific US-born scorer in NHL history.

Great player. Kind of wish he had stuck with the Stars throughout, as a one-team for life guy (a la Yzerman), but I think few will remember his sojourn with the Wings and it is cool that the Livonia guy could spend a year with the home town team. Also, in his heyday, clearly a member of the best hair team.

Modano was a big reason Dallas embraced hockey. He was the face and hair of the franchise when they moved down from Minnesota and was always available to the media and fans, who embraced him more quickly than if he was from some exotic place like Canadia. I'm glad he got a chance to hoist the Cup in a Stars uniform, even if it meant the city of Dallas crushing the title hopes of Buffalo for a third time.
I hope he doesn't get too bored whiling away his retirement years with Willa Ford.

Modano was a wonderful player and such a class act; he should be spoken about in that Joe Sakic and Ron Francis kind-of-way.
All time best hair team. He's no Ron Duguay, but only one is.

It was good that Mo was able to play his last season at home. It was even better that the Dallas Stars gave him that one-day deal so that he could, fittingly, retire as a member of the Dallas Stars.
