Yankees belt three grand slams in a single game: The first time this has ever happened. They blew out the hapless A's 22 to 9.

Was on the phone with my mother early in the game, and we were both talking about our frustration with the team (they were losing at the time) and our worries about them come playoff time (she never misses a game), and I was surprised when she said she had turned the game off. I did too. We both, obviously, wound up missing the explosion. We're both pissed!

dyams, my take away from that story is that you and your mom are bad luck for the Yankees. Y'all have to stop watching them if you want them to win. Sorry!

I have that effect on the Patriots. No, seriously, I do.

Last night, our local PBS station showed a documentary on the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (mostly focused on the Milwaukee years though) and I found out that the franchise is the oldest, currently-operating sports franchise in the USA. Did y'all know that? Probably.

You mean the 9 that the A's scored?
Always fun to see a lacrosse score now and then.

Yankee hitters came to the plate with the bases loaded 16 times. A's pitchers handed out 13 walks. Jeter left 9 runners on base. It could have been worse.
I watched until the A's had a 7-1 lead and then 2 hours later saw the final score. Impressive. As a red sox fan I'll have to hang my hat on phil hughes still looking like phil hughes.

Who else thought that Jorge Posada would have more innings in 2011 playing 2nd base than at catcher?
