In the one angle (a slo mo replay where you see the batter fall on his way to first), it looks like the catcher missed the runner.

I don't think it was a solid tag at all; the catcher shouldn't have been so quick to "show" the call to the umpire, but from virtually every angle, there's no visible space between the glove and the leg. Perhaps the ump (being as close as he was) saw something we don't, but Lugo's body language immediately afterwards was one of shock, not of one who felt he wasn't tagged. That's telling.

Lugo now says the ump made the correct call, but his body language didn't show that, and watching Lugo play for several years in boston, that's just Lugo being Lugo.
The ump now says he may have been wrong.
The catcher could have made a better tag, but it was the 19th inning. He looks clearly out to me. Terrible call.

Rasmus has gone to the Jays. Good pick up for them, I think. Awful trade for the Cardinals, at least in the long-term (may give them a bump for this year). LaRussa always hated Rasmus (actually always has mismanaged youngsters unless they give him no choice a la Pujols and Ankiel); I wish he would just retire already.

It didn't look like he made contact with the glove on Lugo, but I still don't think I would have called safe in that situation.

I haven't seen any pictures or video that show he definitely made contact, but that also means there isn't anything to show he didn't.
