Nascar Pastor Gives Sponsor-Packed Invocation: Pastor Joe Nelms delivered the invocation prayer before Saturday's Nationwide Nascar race in Nashville, thanking God for "GM Performance Technology," "Sunoco racing fuel" and many other things. "I don't want to do the cookie-cutter prayer," he said later.

Yea I am pretty certain that in a world of near economic collapse, natural disasters, famine, war, pollution, racism, political strife, crime, and global warming etc, god should be thanked for GM Performance Technology and Sunoco Racing Fuel. Way to go GOD and thanks for keeping it real and keeping NASCAR sponsors happy.
God may not give a rats ass about the human beings on this planet, but he certainly loves a competitive stock car race. Just what kind of credibility can a religious quack have after a invocation like that? Send donations now.

Makes as much sense as the winner thanking god. He's praying to an invisible man in the sky, and in that light, this prayer makes a lot of sense.

Shit, I loved that. Give the guy credit for having a good sense of the occasion. And maybe even a sense of humor (C'mon - "smoking hot wife")?

Between Pastor Nelms putting the fun in fundamental and a host of other preachers putting the mental in fundamental, that leaves da.
Rev'n Simpson, you out there on the infield? Stand up and be counted, brother.
I'm looking forward to the day when Pastor Melissa Scott is scheduled to appear in God's name at a NASCAR event.

That's what I thought of also. In fact, I'm pretty sure he was just trying to do something similar.

As a card carrying agnostic, I could give two shits about an invocation; but even I thought that was in exceptionally poor taste.
