194 career wins, one perfecto, one Cy Young award and five, count 'em, FIVE World Series rings. David Cone calls it quits.
I'll always remember David Cone for supposedly spanking it in the bullpen in Shea. Here's the link, which I STILL can't create on a Mac! (Sorry, Ufez, I've tried!) http://www.cjr.org/year/92/3/mets.asp

Vito90 put some stats up, is that enough to get Cone into the Hall? I would like to hear your thoughts.

It's not even close to enough to get Cone into the Hall of Fame. A check of his stats shows: Not enough wins: 193 wins in 16 seasons isn't that great. Not that dominant: only five seasons with more than 15 wins, only one Cy Young Award, only two top-3 placements in Cy Young voting. Not that effective: an ERA+ of 121 means he was better than the average pitcher, but not really HOF material. Dave Steib is a good comparison. No good HOF comparisons: his Black Ink, Grey Ink, HOF Standards and HOF Monitor stats don't show any great indicators that he deserves to be in the hall, and of the 10 pitchers listed as "most similar" only 2 of them are in the HOF, and they are dicey choices at best. World Series rings are not great indicators of HOF worthiness as you don't have to be great to have a bunch of them. Cone will get some votes from the KC/NY media folk, but it would be disappointing if he gets into the HOF with anything other than buying a ticket.

Cool as a riverboat gambler, David Cone was one of my favourite players to ever don a Blue Jays uniform. His type of cool confidence will surely be missed by baseball.
