The media coverage of today's stage of the Tour de France had its flaws.
(The car has been kicked off the Tour, but this isn't the first incident where a media vehicle has brought down a rider.)

etagloh, I was watching live on Versus and we saw the accident as it happened, and then again and again and again with multiple replays where they repeatedly called the drivers actions stupid.

I'm guessing that this is in response to rumors of the Big Ten forming a hockey conference. Kind of exciting, but I'll miss having one more reason to hate Michigan.

apoch: that was meant to be a sideswipe at the Euro Media car and the moto-photographer who knocked off Nicki Sorensen, not the global commentariat, who were united in disbelief. (German Eurosport; Sporza Belgium; Liggett & Sherwen doing their usual triple-duty with SBS.)
Hoogerland not only got back on his bike, he claimed the polka dot jersey at the end of the stage. He and Flecha were offered the combativit prize at the end of the stage, but Flecha refused to take his half.
It's a rest day tomorrow, with time for the team directors to kick up a stink with ASO, otherwise I'd expect some kind of protest. It's not been a good Tour for rider welfare so far: Nicolas Roche has complained of long delays in traffic while VIPs get priority; and though I'm broadly supportive of the route changes, I'm not sure the narrower roads have been fully tested to cope with that size field and retinue.

It would appear so, tahoemoj, and I'm all for it. I think that having more but smaller conferences eventually will lead to more teams being included in the NCAA championships. Since this whole thing was started by Penn State starting a Division 1 program, and my son's alma mater is now my favorite team, I can do all of your Michigan hating for you if you wish.
