SportsFilter: The Thursday Huddle:

A place to discuss the sports stories that aren't making news, share links that aren't quite front-page material, and diagram plays on your hand. Remember to count to five Mississippi before commenting in anger.

Sign of US interest in Women's World Cup: I couldn't access the online ESPN3 feed for the first USA match on Tuesday. Traffic overload. Had to see it on another online broadcast streaming source.

No problem accessing ESPN for Eq. Guinea, though.

All these recent stooges throwing out ugly first pitches at MLB games: if I'm a notable enough athlete or famous person to be throwing out the first pitch, I would be an idiot not to invest a little time beforehand working on being able to crank up a halfway decent throw.

If these guys were at Wimbledon, one of them would eventually hit the Duchess of Kent.

When I was growing up, even the least athletic kid in town would eventually get to the point where they could throw well enough to hit a tree with a rock. I guess that is no longer a prerequisite childhood skill.

Unless you can do it by holding down button A while simultaneously pressing button B multiple times.

/Kids, eh? What with their "hair" and their "music".

Beaverboard: As I learned during an awkward night in my late teens, all the practice in the world does not mean you can hit the mitt when it's showtime.
