Latest update from the Barry Bonds trial.

The odds are stacked against the prosecution. Despite the years they have had to prepare for this trial, prosecutors struggled to make the case that jurors should believe -- beyond any reasonable doubt -- that Bonds knowingly lied under oath.

Seven years.
Fifty million dollars.
And the government is going to faceplant at the finish line.

Great Larry Bird anecdote.

grum, outcomes like the bonds trial remind me that (for the most part) the really good (at their jobs) lawyers never work for the government because, well, lawyers are pretty much all about the dinero.

No team has ever lost the first four five six games of a season and gone on to win the World Series. Red Sox fans can call it a season now.

The Red Sox have handed the Yankees an unbelievable opportunity. One week into the season and they can bury them to 0-7, 0-8 or 0-9.

The "greatest player ever" (per TGH) only six shots behind leader after first round of Masters. Ian Poulter three shots further back.

As a Canadian, there's Paul Henderson's goal and then there is everything else.

Joe Carter in 1993 was pretty huge too.

Masters R1: Woods is in touch (he's never broken 70 in the first round so by his own standards he's off to a flyer), Mickelson could have shot 62 if all the putts that grazed the hole had dropped, or 83 if he hadn't got miraculous lies everytime he carved one into the jungle, Kaymer looks set to miss the cut for the fourth year in a row, and Rory...

For no particular reason, I decided to come home to Northern Ireland to watch this Masters, specifically to Holywood, my and Rory's home town (or village really). I'm supposed to be flying back to England on Monday, but if he wins the Masters, I suspect I'll still be too drunk to fly.

For the record though, ragged as Phil looked at times, he's still going to be the man to beat in my view.
