Bibby Gives Up $6.2 Million Salary: Less than a week after being traded from the Atlanta Hawks, guard Mike Bibby has relinquished his $6.2 million salary with the Washington Wizards next season to get to a contender now. The Miami Heat are reportedly his next destination once he clears waivers. CSN offers a retrospective on Bibby's career with the team, which totaled 2 points, 1 field goal in 9 attempts, 8 assists, 1 steal, and 29 minutes.

Is there anything stopping him from signing another contract for next year? This doesn't make a whole lot of sense as-reported.

Thank you. I don't get why it's being reported like he gave up something. If I drop dead today, I'm not sacrificing next year's salary. All he gave up was some guaranteed money that he can easily replace a at least 80% of.

I still do not know why this is not considered tampering. Yeh, I know it's a player making the contact and not a team "official," but that's just BS. Tampering by proxy.

Bibby's probably pretty full of himself, joining a playoff team with a bunch of "stars." But from Washington's point of view, clearly Bibby is worth more to the Wizards playing for someone else.

Wow, I am not a huge NBA guy, but tampering is based on who initiates contact? That has to be an intentional loophole.

Bibby's a decent veteran to have around, but I don't get how the Heat determined another ball handling guard is a priority.

Well, there is going to be some labour strife next year, and the new CBA might have a harder/lower salary cap. If that's the case, then his next contract might not be as big as $6.2million (or even 80%). Heck, by simply enacting this move, he's definitely hurt his reputation and earning power going forward. There is an outside chance that he could even get squeezed out of a starting job next season.

If he gets squeezed out of a starting job next year, it'll more likely be because his skills fell off a cliff.

Ya'll have a much higher opinion of Mike Bibby than I do.

I would probably only give him about half of that 6.2 million he would have gotten had he stayed under contract. He might make more though but I think it would be a bad deal. Closest comparison I can think of is Derek Fisher and last offseason he signed a 3 year 10.5 million deal at age 36 and Bibby is only 32.

He won't be handling many balls in Miami. He's only a point gaurd because that's all he can guard, and he can't really guard them either. No, he'll be almost exclusively spotting up. Works out with Miami though because they have far better ball handlers in Wade and James.

Murph probably going to Boston, Bibby headed to Miami. Who are the Bucks getting?!

No, as a Celtics fan, I definitely do not. Much more mouth than performance.

But they already have at least 2 guys in that role (can't guard anyone, spot up shooter on O) in House and Miller.

Heat would find a better fit for their needs in the D league.
