San Francisco 49ers Hire Jim Harbaugh: The San Francisco 49ers have hired another Stanford coach to turn around years of futility. Former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh takes over a team that has missed the playoffs for eight years. "Harbaugh has 17 years of college coaching experience and will bring to the 49ers his own souped-up version of [Bill] Walsh's beloved West Coast Offense," writes Scott Ostler.
In good news for him, he takes over a decent team that doesn't need to do too much to be competitive in its division. The NFC West may be a joke right now (or may not, judging by the results of the divisional matchup), but winning divisions is a good and quick way to make fans happy.

Has any other NFL franchise ever hired three straight head coaches with no previous NFL head coaching experience? Harbaugh will probably do well, especially if he can sort the QB, but this seems an odd streak to be on. And Raiders of recent vintage don't count because, well, Al Davis is batshit insane.
