315,000-Yard Run Precedes Army-Navy Game: For today's Army-Navy game, 20 cadets from the U.S. Military Academy ran a football 179 miles from West Point in New York to Lincoln Field in Philadelphia -- a 23-year tradition. "They say no one's ever dropped it," said runner Alex Jefferies. "But my hands were numb and I couldn't even feel the ball." Navy leads the series 54-49-7 and has won the last eight meetings.
Awesome tradition and for my money the greatest rivalry in sports. The game in either 1975 or 1976 was my introduction to football, thanks to my dad, Lieutenant Commander Forrest Smith (RIP). GO NAVY! If Dad was here I do believe we'd be watching the game together.
