Bruins' Recchi Scores 1,500th Point: Boston Bruins winger Mark Recchi scored two third-period goals Wednesday in the team's 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers, becoming the 13th NHL player to reach 1,500 career points.
The HHOF is what most people would consider a "big hall" selection.
There are MANY players of lesser quality than Recchi in the hall of fame.
Unless there is a radical change in voting, he'll eventually get into the HOF, but probably not in his first year of eligibility (unless there is a real dead zone for candidates, and the previous backlog has been cleared (like Oates and Gilmour)).
Being in the top 15 in points should guarantee a spot for him, as the only players in the top 15 NOT in the HOF are:
Sakic - will be voted in the first year he's eligible
Jagr - ditto
Recchi is no Sakic/Jagr, but he's deserving.
Having a very good, long career is more than enough to get into the HHOF.
Heck, having an average-length and mediocre-quality career, but playing with 3 superstars, is enough to get into the HHOF.

So, hockey geeks -- is Recchi a hall of famer? Or is this just a very good, long career, but not a great one? I have to admit, I know next to nothing about the hockey hall of fame and whether there are "magic numbers" akin to 300 wins or 3000 hits in baseball that basically make for automatic entry.
