My Mother the Yankee Fan: Jane Heller tells the story of her twice-widowed mother, who grew up in the Bronx and once met Babe Ruth but didn't become a New York Yankees fan until her 80s. "Now, at 93, she is as addicted to the Yankees as I am," Heller writes. "'How come you never get angry at them?' I asked during my most recent trip east. 'Because they're the Yankees,' she said with conviction. 'They always try to come through and do their best. You of all people should know that, dear.'"

Nice story - would have been even better if the mother had fallen in love with the Yankees when she was in her mid-fifties.

That was when Horace Clarke and company ruled the earth...

You fall in love with that, you are a true fan for the ages.
