Two time Tour de France winner Laurent Fignon has died, aged 50.

Damn. Didn't even know he was ill. He won it twice but was probably doomed to be remembered more for the time he lost it by 8 seconds to LeMond.

Transfer window day in England today.

Milan claim to have signed Robinho away from Manchester City which will give them an attacking triumvirate next year of Robinho, Ronaldinho and Ibrahimovic... three players with a combined workrate of roughly zero.

Not surprised to see Gilfi Sigurdsson leave Reading - that guy was entirely too good for the second tier and I'm glad we won't have to face him any more.

Birmingham have allegedly managed to get Aleks Hleb back in the country on loan from Barca, which is a fantastic bit of business.

Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson has reached back into his Fulham squad to bring Paul Konchesky to Anfield.

Sunderland sign USA's heart-breaker Asamoah Gyan for about 13m.

Spurs are usually reported to be signing everyone from Pele to Roy Race every transfer window, but rumour has it they've nabbed Rafa van der Vaart on loan and Mauro Zarate from Lazio.

The window is now closed, but deals will continue to be announced for a short while, while everyone works out who managed to fax tha FA on time.

Props to Birmingham, they made three or four solid signings today. Spurs hopefully managed to sign at least one of the thousand people they were apparently courting.

Awful news about Fignon. Too young.

Dana White + Oxford = ?

It's the Union. The Union isn't part of the university, but it is good at getting unusual speakers. Jerry Springer has spoken there; so has Kermit the Frog.

The Ryan Babel in a helicopter story is fun.

You just can't get these Young Boys out your head, can you?

Reports now suggest that after Real recently turned down an 18m offer for RvdV, Spurs have bought, rather than loaned, the Dutchman for 8m today.

That's some quality work there, Madrid. Well done.

With those sillier "celebrity insurance" stories, I sometimes wonder "what do the actual premiums cost?" because it's surely a bargain in exchange for the publicity.

Kinda makes you ponder the authenticity of that William Tell shot
again, doesn't it?
