The Baseball Fan's Final Show of Loyalty: Michigan based company Eternal Image Inc. creates urns, headstone medallions, burial vaults and MLB team logo caskets for the 'die-hard' fan. The caskets sell for $3500 and the logo-ed urns for $799. For a mere $2900 more ($4500 for a pair), you can also purchase an eternal Skybox at Beyond the Vines, a Chicago based monument adorned with original materials taken from Wrigley Field.
I don't have concerns about that -- I like that we put signed golf balls in the casket of my uncle George and how the comic book artist Dave Cockrum was buried in a Green Lantern T-shirt -- but the funeral and casket marketing industry seems like a massive ripoff of bereaved families.

I just don't know about being buried in MLB merchandise. I've always found it kind of sad when someone's existence is so tied in with the sporting teams they support. I may be in the minority in that stance, but to elevate a diversion to what amounts to a position of faith or ethos somehow smacks of a futile life to me.
