Vikings Player Will Fast During Training Camp: Minnesota Vikings backup safety Husain Abdullah will not eat or drink at all during daylight hours for 30 days beginning Wednesday, an observance of the Muslim holiday Ramadan. "I'm putting nothing before God, nothing before my religion," Abdullah said. Nine years ago, Vikings offensive tackle Korey Stringer died from heatstroke during the team's training camp. His widow Kelci continues to speak about the dangers of practicing in extreme heat without proper hydration. "It got the attention of the world," she said.

Idiot (imo). Better get a signed waiver of rights, cause in this weather he will be carried out in a hearse. When he's unconscious, can they give him an IV?

From what I've gathered he did it last year and was fine.

The ball's not made of pigskin anymore, right? Or does he just not touch it?

No pigs involved.

Jesting aside, the lunar calendar can make it especially rough on observant fasters outside the sub-tropics, because fasting days will occasionally line up with the longest days of the year.

I'm glad the Vikings are helping him nutritionally so that he stays hydrated.

And equally occasionally the shortest days of the year.
