Zenyatta: The Greatest Mare Ever: Zenyatta may be the greatest mare ever. Even if your not normally into race horses, it's worth seeing this one, there may not be another like her. Laura Hillenbrand, who wrote Seabiscuit, explains why (NPR 6min). Video clips related to the NPR story, why Zenyatta is a modern legend: 1. She's huge (helmet cam - the other horses are not small).

2. She does a war dance before each race.

3. She has won every race (now 17 for 17).

4. ..in dramatic come from behind fashion.

5. She enjoys Guinness Stout (video mutes temporarily) (via MetaFilter).

Watching the 2009 Breeder's Cup race, it's ridiculous how much of a lead she gives everyone, how late she comes from behind, and how many horses she blows by to win by a length.

Before today, I had never heard of Zenyata. Thank you for letting me know about her.

Wow. Great post. Her run in the Breeder's Cup is just absurd.

Here's a link showing her height and comparing her to some notable horses.

Great post indeed, and very cool link, tron. I didn't know just how big she is.
