The Williams sisters were stunningly defeated in doubles at Wimbledon by Vesnina and Zvonareva.

Richard Williams is considering calling the FBI to ask why the victorious duo weren't picked up for questioning during yesterday's Russian spy ring round up.

Fed lost too. The world will surely be ending at any minute.

I'm sure it says something about my fandom that my interest in watching a particular event is based very much on who is left in it. I'm trying to get back up my interest in the World Cup after a particularly devastating weekend (the U.S. and Mexico). At least, Wimbledon still has Serena.

Rod Brind'Amour is set to hold a press conference at 2:30 Eastern time today. It will be streamed live on the Hurricanes' web site. Smells like a retirement announcement to me.

Elin Nordegren Gets $750,000,000 , Custody of Kids in Exchange for Silence in Tiger Woods Divorce "The price of the huge sum is her silence: no interviews, tell-all books, or TV appearances about this for the rest of her life -- even if Tiger dies first -- or she'll lose the lot."

$750 million? Using the death clock calculator at its most optimistic setting (which seems to think I'll live to be 95), and assuming I made 0% interest, if I had that kind of money, I could spend $35,284 every day until I died.

Is the Sun a reputable source? I don't really believe Tiger has $750 million to give in the divorce. He has certainly earned that much, but I doubt he hasn't spent any of it. Further, they had a prenup and were only married five years. That would be a ridiculously generous settlement under the circumstances.

Also, are the Aussies trying to buy the 2022 World Cup?

Probably. That's how you win Olympics, too.

/Can't say more.

Assuming the $750 million number is accurate, it is certainly not all in cash. His total assets supposedly are well over a billion dollars according to the story. This would include any purchases he made (houses, etc.) that he still has, plus any investments and their gains or increase in value. He certainly can't have spent it all on hookers his girlfriends.

I found it on the Fox Faux News website, it has to be true !!

I\'m sure that future earning capability plays into it.

Further, they had a prenup and were only married five years Beyond prenups often being hard to enforce, it appears that Tiger is buying her silence, which probably wasn't in the prenup. Cost a lot to buy that, or so it appears.

If Tiger is willing to pay that kind of money for her silence, it makes me wonder what he's so desperate to shut her up about. The world already knows he's a serial womanizer. There's got to be more there.

Either that, or he's secretly the richest man in the entire world and $750 million is walking around money.

posted by rcade at 09:17 PM on June 30, 2010

I doubt he's buying her silence for any specific as-yet-undisclosed thing, rather he's just determined to rebuild his career/image and knows that she could scupper that effort very easily by coming on Oprah every month or two and talking about what a monumental asswipe he is. Seriously, his megalomania is that bad that he's paying her off not to become his nemesis!

As for carrying around 750 million... you'd need some pretty large denomination bills to pull that off without tearing a muscle. No wonder he's giving it away.

posted by JJ at 03:04 AM on July 01, 2010

Still, even rebuilding his career, there is no guarantee he can recoup that $750 million. There is a decent possibility that is best money-earning years are behind him. Giving all of that money away for the chance at future money seems foolish.
