Taylor and Tyler go 1-2 in the NHL Entry Draft: The Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins stood pat and as expected selected Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin, respectively, in Friday night's NHL draft in Los Angeles. Defenseman Cam Fowler, pegged as a top five pick, fell to Anaheim at No. 12.

I thought Pierre McGuire was going to lose his mind if Anaheim didn't take Fowler at 12th.

At that point, I couldn't take any more of watching it on TV and turned it off.
I mean, as a Leaf fan, there really isn't any point in watching.

I thought the Leafs first pick at #2 was a good one.

I still think:

Phil Kessel > Tyler Seguin + 2nd round pick + 2011 first-round pick

I'd make that trade all day long.

Fraze, this means that you have completed your initiation and are now officially a Southern Ontarian.

Now, let's figure out how to get Owen Nolan back in the saddle. I figure trading the next three years' first-rounders should do it.

Yes, as long as those last two picks are busts. If they are useful players, it's going to be painful.

Oh God, they don't even have a pick and they still suck. Let's see what kind of a player Sequin is before we congratulate Burke on that deal. Kessel is a 30 goal scorer - maybe 40. He's not a top 50 guy in the league.

Hmmmm... A post on the NHL draft, but not a word about the proceedings in the bounce ball league. It's one of the reasons I love this group; we're a bunch of contrarians. There was a brief interview of Brian Burke during the draft last night, and Burke was asked if he would do the trade again. His answer was in the affirmative, but he also said that he had done the deal with some expectations in place. The main one was that Toronto's record would have been good enough to avoid the lottery, and thus reduce the value to Boston. Given those circumstances, I think he was correct, but it sure looks bad, at least for now.

On another note, I see that Boston have taken 2 more centers with their 2nd round picks. What's up with that? Before long they'll have a corner on the market.

Yeah, and I should say that Kessel was probably worth a first and a second if the Leafs were to be truly fighting for a playoff spot. Burke just overrated his team. I mean our team. Dammit.

A corner on centers?
