Paul Lawrie hits the green in regulation at a par five and walks off with an 11: Playing in the Welsh Open at Celtic Manor (venue for October's Ryder Cup), Britain's last major winner hit his second shot at the 610 yard par-five 10th hole into a greenside bunker. He was two shots off the lead and in good shape for his sixth birdie of the day. He splashed out and eight putts later walked off with an 11. From two behind with 9 holes to play, he ended up shooting 74 and missing the cut.

Should point out that this happened at the 2nd hole, not the 10th as I've lazily stated above (they were using a two tee start, so it was Lawrie's 10th of the day). Perhaps I just have a sick sense of humour, but I find this sort of thing hilarious. It's almost as funny as the time Tiger putted off the edge of a green into the water (at the Mercedes?).

I don't think I've ever 8 putted a green, even with a 12 pack of Bud in me.

I do like Lawrie's reply to a reporter 'At least my 11 wasn't the story of the day", referring to Colin Montgomerie's admittance of cheating on his wife.

Since I usually play early in the morning, it's a stiff bloody mary per hole. Even by the 18th I never 8 putted a hole. At least to the best of my memory. That was some epic bad putting.

To be fair, he's playing on a course that is probably a LOT harder than 90% of the weekend duffers would ever get a chance to play on, with pin placements and green slopes that would make the average joe cringe.
