Tyson Gay Breaks 200 Meter Record: At the Great City Games in England, American sprinter Tyson Gay ran the straight-track 200 meters in 19.41 seconds Saturday, breaking an unofficial 44-year-old record set by Tommie Smith in 1966 by 0.09 seconds.
...on a straight track.
Usain Bolt's time of 19.19s for the 200 at the 2009 IAAF World Championships still stands. Two-tenths is still a sizable gap.

I had no idea there was such an event, though I was just speaking the other day with a friend who's a marathoner about what it'd be like to run a "straight line marathon" someplace like Bonneville Salt Flats.
Can someone with experience enlighten me as to why Bolt's 200m time is faster with a curve? I'd've thought the energy expended going around a curve would lead to slower, not faster times.

Because Bolt is faster is why.

And they don't run the straight 200 very often.

Can someone without a talent for stating the obvious please enlighten me ;-)

After reading that, Tyson Gay would need the run of his life to beat Bolt on a straight track.

Bolt says he's on pace to break his WR in the 100m too.

Seems an odd juxtaposition of words that Gay is running a 'straight' 200.

Good, I hope Bolt gets some competition.
