Vin Scully Hospitalized After Fall: Legendary broadcaster Vin Scully hit his head in a fall at home and was hospitalized Thursday night, but the team reports that he's doing well. Scully, 82, has been with the Dodgers for 59 years -- the longest of any current sports broadcaster with the same team.

And he's gonna call the game this Sunday too.

When I was a kid growing up in Hawaii, KGMB-TV would broadcast local feeds from KTLA (or whoever was broadcasting Dodgers games locally in LA in the late 70s) so I'd get to see a few games that way. It was Vin Scully who called those games, too. That's how I grew up a Dodgers fan.

May Vin call many more games, too.

I like the fact that it's only his voice in the booth. There is no cross-talk from some "colour" man. There is no unnecessary chatter about stupid things in between pitches. Just the game, and what is happening.

I don't get to hear Scully all that much (Canadian east-coaster), but other than Dan Shulman, I don't think there is anyone else I'd rather listen to talk about a baseball game.

What is it with old legends hurting themselves? Stirling Moss fell down an elevator shaft a couple of weeks back!

Vin Scully was partially responsible for my growing up a Dodgers' fan, even though I was raised in a DC suburb. My last name is Scully. When I moved to LA in 1990 I was so happy to be able to listen to "Uncle Vinny" on the radio practically nightly. Then News Corps bought the team. That coupled with general chaos in LA in the early 90s closed the door on my support for the team, but Vin Scully is the best at what he does.

Get well soon, Uncle Vinny!

Seems as good a time as any to re-link to the audio of Scully's call of the 9th inning of Sandy Koufax's perfect game.
