Remember a few years ago when that clown who was taunting Tie Domi and ended up falling into the penalty box where Domi was waiting for him? Well, he's suing everybody for damages. Everybody except the Flyers, that is.

Hahahahah! Oh man, that's priceless. It took him 2 years to decide that he needed to sue everyone? I'm surprised he didn't include the beer companies that made the tasty beverages that got him so drunk that night. Or his buddies for letting him be an asshole in public like that.

Damn. MacTavish better watch out now, cause Harvey the Dog might be suing him next! Falcone, says his lawyer, is too much of a fan to sue his favorite team. "From the heart he decided not to sue the Flyers," This is the dumbest thing I've heard since that kid's parent sued a hockey league for not picking his kid as the MVP.

Just in time for the Leafs-Flyers first-round matchup, no less. Perfect.

Anyone know why it took him two years to decide to sue? *boggles*

Ummm ... just a question, but is everyone excusing Domi for punching this guy? Because he's a rockhead? Falcone is an idiot who I don't think deserves a penny for this, and according to a post in the TSN stream on that link, received season tickets from the Flyers in return for the glass giving way. Whether or not that's true is unknown, but Domi had no right to swing at the guy. Remember, Domi instigated this by squirting water on the fans in the area behind the penalty box. Also, if you follow the posts on the TSN site, you find a tremendous numbers of people ripping Americans in general. Do Canadians really dislike us this much?

Christopher Falcone is a comic genius. I didn't think anything could be funnier than the incident itself, but a lawsuit takes it to new heights. And he's not suing the Flyers because he's a fan! Pure brilliance!

but is everyone excusing Domi for punching this guy? Why did he do it? A few years back in Buffalo, a fan jumped on to the ice after the play had stopped and started running toward a referee standing behind the net. Just as he got within 10 feet of the ref, a linesman came barrelling from out of nowhere (offscreen) and absolutely plowed this man head/face first into the boards. It was one of the most vicious, brutal body checks I have ever seen. And he was cheered by everyone for doing it. Why did he do it? Remember when Monica Seles got stabbed by the crazed fan? Why did he do it? Remember when that KC Royal first-base coach got tackled and pummelled by the fans? Why did he do it? If a fan intrudes into the field of play, it's the players right to assume the worst and to protect him/herself. Domi laying a couple of punches (his best method of defence since he's stuck in a small booth with the guy) was pretty light considering he could have used his stick or his skates to do some real damage to the guy.

Also, if you follow the posts on the TSN site, you find a tremendous numbers of people ripping Americans in general. Do Canadians really dislike us this much? No, we don't. But the vocal nutbars that feel it's fun to bash anything/everything are the ones that are going to post on a website with their views. There is more of a "thrill" for them to post "American's suck!" and be aggressive than it is to post "I love America!" and be passive. I think Canadians might be more against the war (in the same way some Americans are too) than they are against Canada. But since we aren't sending any troops (or supporting it officially through our government), it makes more sense for them to hate "America" than "the war".

Grum, I think it's important for us all to remember that Canada relies on America for economic security, just as American relies on Canada for maple syrup and beaver pelts. I don't understand why we can't all get along up here in North America. I suggest we gang up on Mexico. Oh, and good point on the Domi thing.

I think Canadians might be more against the war (in the same way some Americans are too) than they are against Canada. That should end "against the US." There is a preview button for a reason.

Couldn't this all be settled with a good old fashioned fist fight? Put Falcone in one corner and Domi in another and save our courts a lot of pointless trouble.

I guess we should be happy that a guy like Domi, who I think is a full-blown psychopath, only did that. I see your point, Grum, because you don't what an interloper on the field might be thinking. But Domi instigated this with the water bottle, and the guy was not trying to FIGHT Domi — he was reaching for the water bottle, the glass broke and he in went. If Tie thought this guy was gonna do him serious harm, he's even stupider than I thought.

But Domi instigated this with the water bottle Unless you know exactly what that "fan" said (read: screamed at Domi at the top of his lungs), it's kind of hard to say who instigated what. Also, if you follow the posts on the TSN site, you find a tremendous numbers of people ripping Americans in general. Do Canadians really dislike us this much? If you follow the posts on TSN, you'd also notice that outside of Toronto, the Leaf organisation is generally regarded as being the most evil thing on the planet. I wouldn't base public opinion by TSN's "forum."

mkn: So you're saying that if a fan at a hockey game is screaming and beating on the glass, the player in the box has a right to go after him? There's an interesting concept. If a guy walks in to my newspaper and starts yelling about my editorial, I can squirt him with a water bottle and then start whuppin' him? As for the TSN forum, you're saying the Leafs are the Yankees of Canada?

As for the TSN forum, you're saying the Leafs are the Yankees of Canada? More like the Red Sox (haven't won in XX years) than the Yankees. But the Leaf fans (myself included) still have the swagger of a Yankee fan. No, I don't know why, but we do. I think it has to do with the fact that when the Leafs play a road game in Canada, there are almost as many Leaf fans in attendance as there are fans of the home team.

wfrazierjr, I remember watching that clip over and over, and the fans were taunting Domi mercilessly. Domi was just having a little fun by spraying the worst of them with the water-bottle. It’s not like Domi was spraying them with hydrochloric acid or anything. It wasn’t a classy move, but it was definitely funny. (I can’t believe I’m actually defending Tie Domi.) You sit in the front row at Seaworld, you might get splashed by Shamu. You yell obscenities at Tie Domi right outside the penalty box, you might get sprayed. As to your question, you can’t squirt the guy who comes into your office and starts yelling about your editorial. But if he starts yelling shit about your mom, all a good dousing is perfectly acceptable.

posted by Samsonov14 at 10:28 AM on April 04, 2003

Go back and read that again, Samsonov. You ARE defending Tie Domi. Oh, the shame. The question is not whether or not I can squirt the guy. I can do that, although if I do so, I'm obviously not very professional. But if I pull the guy's sweater over his head and start beating him like a rented mule, that's ok also? It's not the water spraying that bugs me so much, although a player should know better (but we're talking about Tie here). It's the punching, and the fact that people think it's ok, that bothers me. I would like to beat the crap out of Shamu, though. He never shares his fish.

posted by wfrazerjr at 10:38 AM on April 04, 2003

I think you could probably start throwing punches on the guy in your office if, after you spray him with water, he jumps over the side of your cubicle and lands on/near you.
