71 and counting: the women of UConn break their own record for the most consecutive victories by a women's college basketball team.

I've been a big UConn women's basketball fan for years. They've had some fantastic players over the years. That said, current team members Maya Moore and Tina Charles could very well be the best two they've ever had. If you have a chance to watch them play this year, I encourage you to do so. They might not change your mind about women's basketball if you're not a fan already, but I think you'll be pretty impressed.
I mean, there's a reason they win everything by double digits.

More sexist than funny, I'd say.

Because Demophon suggested the quality of U Conn's play suggests they could beat some NBA teams? I'm having trouble seeing the sexism there.

Look really hard, you'll find what you seek.

Actually, it isn't. It's more of a jab at the Knicks/Nets.
See, if believe that a women's college team could beat an NBA team, you're crazy. If you believe that a men's college team could bean an NBA team, you're crazy.
It is safe to assume that all feeder league teams would get crushed by the top level league teams (except for rare occasions).
Therefore, implying that a feeder team like this achieved it's record by "only" beating the Knicks/Nets 3 times implies that even to a feeder team (minor league team/junior team/college team/high school team), the Knicks/Nets aren't much of a challenge.
Another example:
When the 2004/05 London Knights junior hockey team started the season without losing in 31 straight games, it was joked about in this parts that they were able to pull off this amazing feat "without playing the Maple Leafs even once."
That's not insulting London, that was insulting the Maple Leafs.

This is amazing. Has any collegiate team, outside of the UCLA men's team decade of dominance, come close to this type of dominance?
I don't think so.

Apparently Maya Moore and Tina Charles had an off game. This is why they only won by 28 points.

Are you talking about just basketball?
If so, that's debatable. Off the top of my head, there's the women's UNC soccer team from the 90s and then there's the current women Uconn women's volleyball streak with college's longest wining streak ESPN cares about. IIRC, they went the entire season without being pushed to 5 sets and were never behind until the final championship game. Last year was basically as dominant.

...the current women Uconn women's volleyball streak...
That's the Penn State women's volleyball team whose streak now stands at 103 in a row, including 3 straight NCAA championships. My Penn State student son would not let me pass without comment.
Actually, he's requesting directions to your house, jmd82. ;>)

The amazing part is that the New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks only accounted for 3 of those game.
