USA hammer Finland to advance to gold medal game : Finland were their own worst enemy in this one as they were hammered 6-1 by the Americans in their semifinal encounter.

Patrick Kane scored twice in a six goal explosion in the opening period as the Americans now await the winner of the second semifinal between Canada and Slovakia later today.

"When you are down 6-0 after 12 minutes, you know the game is pretty much over," said Finland's assistant captain Teemu Selanne afterwards. "You play for pride but it's tough."

I thought I was reading the TV wrong at the gym when I saw this scoreline early in the 2nd, as I'd missed the first period. Therefore, can't say much about the action, but sure looks like USA was trying to make another statement.

*sigh* Oh well, here's hoping they can take the bronze tomorrow. This wouldn't have happened if they had Jussi Jokinen on the team.

Scandinavia[1] is a region in northern Europe that includes at a minimum Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Finland is often considered a Scandinavian country in common English usage, and Iceland and the Faroe Islands are sometimes also included.[2]

The term relates to the Scandinavian Peninsula which is a geographic region consisting of Norway, Sweden and part of northern Finland.

I return the favour:

It's part of the parody/meme. This isn't the first one out there.

Given that (1) many were saying what a tough game this could be for the U.S., (2) how dominant they were, & (3) now that Canada looks like everyone thought they would, a question for the Canadian fans:

Are you more or less confident about beating the U.S. for the gold than you were before their 1st mtg earlier this week?

Thrilled with the result of this game. Hopefully this can put all the talk of the Switzerland game to rest.

It's what we want. Does it give the US the opportunity to beat us twice on home soil? Wait - it does?!? WHAT ARE WE DOING?!? Most of them couldn't care less! They'll only care if they win, and mostly because we care so much!

No, if one wants the greatest of victories, one needs the greatest of opponents.

Which, up until last week, the US really wasn't. I thought the Russians, Swedes and Finns were the cream of the competition. Happy to be proven wrong. The Americans have been playing inspired. They whomped Finland and have been the best team so far. Canada better bring their A+ game.
