Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, 5 Others Join Hall of Fame: This year's NFL Hall of Fame inductees are Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little, John Randle, Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith. Links go to local coverage from their hometown papers. Smith and Rice were in their first year of eligibility. Little and LeBeau were veterans' picks, and LeBeau went in as a player, not a coach. Kudos to MSNBC for finding a picture of Smith and Rice in Cardinals and Seahawks uniforms, respectively.
Cris Carter was in the final 10 last year, but not this year.
Carter finished No. 2 behind Jerry Rice in career receptions (1,101) and touchdowns (130) by a receiver. On December 28, 2008 Marvin Harrison of the Indianapolis Colts passed Carter to take the second place position in career receptions. He is one of only six players in NFL History with 1,000 or more receptions (1,101). He is one of only two players to record 120+ receptions in a season twice, along with Wes Welker...Carter owns the record for most 12+ reception games in a single season(4) in 1995.

LeBeau deserved the honor as a player and also as a defensive coach. He is one of the greatest. You can't find a coach that is better liked by the players on his team.

There are no assistant coaches in the Hall of Fame.

IMO, I think the reason as to why Cris Carter didn't make it this year was because the HOF committee wanted this year to be all about 1 HOF WR and that's Jerry Rice.

Wow. The Rickey Jackson one is a pretty huge surprise. I believe Peter King pointed out that his stats are in the same ballpark as Lawrence Taylor's, although he obviously was not as disruptive a force and game changer as LT. Really surprised he made it in over Shannon Sharpe and Cris Carter, among others.
I believe this portends a Saints Super Bowl victory.
