Michael Vick Wins Courage Award: The players of the Philadelphia Eagles have awarded Michael Vick the team's Ed Block Courage Award. "I've had to overcome a lot, probably more than one single individual can handle or can bear," Vick said of the honor. "You take a look at what I've been through, you ask certain people to walk in my shoes, they probably couldn't do it. Probably 95 percent of the people in this world -- because nobody had to endure what I've been through, situations I've been put in, situations I've placed myself in."

Given that "community role model" is one of the criteria on which the courage award is based on, I'd say the Eagles were a bit generous in awarding Vick this honor.
Maybe in a few years once he's actually done something to merit it, unless of course, they were taking the fact that he hasn't been arrested for a crime since his release from prison as qualifiying for community role model.

"Maybe in a few years once he's actually done something to merit it" - maybe it's analgous to Obama getting the Peace Prize. In this case, the Eagles are using the award to encourage him to not do stupid, cruel things?

95% could not walk in his shoes is a good thing that means that only 5% are idiots

The worst thing is... Vick talks like he's the victim here. "Yeah, I had to come back from alot...." Sure you did Mike. But if you were a fighting dog, Goodell would have "put you down" the second you misbehaved. You got a second chance that the dogs who "failed" you never got.
I'm not a card carrying PETA member or anything like that, but this makes me sick. Lesse, the guy has been implicated in illegal drugs, gambling, animal cruelty, giving women herpes... He plea bargained his way to serving a year of a five year sentence. Sure, let's honor the jack-tard for not getting caught for a year. The Eagles were stupid to sign him in the first place, now they're going to honor his courage???? F--- me.
This is an insult to anyone else who has ever won this award.

From the article:
The Courage awards have been given to a player from each NFL team for a quarter-century. They are often given to players who return from serious injuries - Correll Buckhalter was the Eagles' recipient a couple of years ago - or who have had to overcome personal tragedies or obstacles. Last year, Eagles players voted for long-snapper Jon Dorenbos, whose mother was murdered by his father when he was 12 years old.
...okay.
