Japanese Baseball Cards: & More Japanese Baseball Cards. All from the collection of John Gall, author of Sayonara Home Run!: The Art of the Japanese Baseball Card. These are markedly different from their North American equivalents.

Very cool! I would love to have my mitts on one of those old school cards.

I still have my Hiroshima Toyo Carp ball cap and a game program (the one with my picture in it). These date from the mid-70's when Yamamoto Koji was the star slugger. At the time I was working at the US Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni, Japan, about a 30-minute train ride from Hiroshima. We often went up for a game and usually had a great time. Sapporo Beer, dried squid, and baseball are a great combination.

The cards date from before my time in Japan, but remind me of some of the history of the game there. I notice that some of them are of college players. That tells you how really popular the game has been for a long time in Japan.
