Massive Man Citeh 1 - Birmingham City 0. A rubbish game, enlivened only by a quality goal by wee Robbie Fowler, and some amusing misses by Nicolas Anelka and Geoff Horsfield. To be fair, we were as rubbish as were they, but really should have earned ourselves a vital point in our struggle against relegation. Man of the Match was our goalie Ian Bennett, which really says all you need to know about the game. Bring on the Baggies on Saturday - a game we really must win. I've started biting my nails already.

Boing boing! Shearer rules out a return to the England national team. We need him too.

I am getting very pissed w/ Soccernet.com and their popups on every page. Funny how one little change can make something go from being good to plain-old horse bollocks. I will boycott Soccernet.com henceforth and switch to the good ol' Beeb.

Follow the fucking link, StarFucker. I think this weekend was the wekend that the West Brom players finally accepted that relegation was inevitable. I'd given up a few weeks ago, but up until last Friday we were still only 5 points behind Bolton. The Trotters winning at Sunderland was the last straw. We played with no fight at all. Oh well. Nationwide, here we come.

btw, on a weekend when Heskey scored and someone called Horsfield goofed ...
Horsfield rounded City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel but with the goal at his mercy completely missed his kick and fell flat on his face.... perhaps we should give the Horse nickname to someone else.

The heat is on! Defending champs and current leaders Arsenal succumbed to a shock 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Man Utd benefited with a 1-0 win over Villa, and cut Arsenal's lead from five to two points. At the other end of the table, former Ireland coach Mick McCarthy began his managerial stint at bottom-placed Sunderland with a lovely 2-0 home loss to fellow relegation strugglers Bolton. Second-last West Brom had another nail hammered in their coffin by Chelsea, who triumphed 2-0 with goals from Stanic and Zola. Third-last West Ham managed a scoreless draw away to Everton, which at least gains them a point, but still leaves them two points from safety (which is where Bolton now sits.) Of course, my weekend was made complete with a Liverpool 3-2 away win over Spurs (their first win at White Hart Lane since 1996), overcoming a 1-0 deficit, thanks to goals from Owen, Heskey and Gerrard. Sixth-placed Liverpool are very much in the running for a Champions League place, being only two points below fourth-placed Chelsea (and a point below fifth-placed city rivals Everton). More links:
