Des Moines Marathon Delayed by Train: The final stretch of the Des Moines Marathon was delayed Sunday by a train. Leader Simon Sawe lost his 10-second lead as he waited nearly a minute for it to pass, and he and David Tuwei finished the 26.2-mile race as a 400 meter sprint. Sawe, a former 1,500-meter runner, won by five seconds. "It was a long train," he said.
I know someone who was there. He said it was the dumbest thing he's ever seen at a big race. Turns out the organizers had sent the route to the railroad and they said no problem. Apparently, the matter slipped their minds day of the event!
