US Striker Charlie Davies Injured, Woman Killed in Car Accident: Charlie Davies, a striker for the U.S. Men's soccer team, was injured at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday in a DC-area car accident in which one woman was killed and another person was injured. Davies has undergone surgery for "non-life threatening" injuries, according to the Washington Post. Ashley J. Roberta, 22, died at the scene.
It's a shame this woman's death will be overshadowed by speculation about what this means for Davis' career, what he was doing out that late on a night the team seems to have had a curfew, etc. (And that's not to piss on any such speculation that ultimately makes it into this thread (this is, after all, a sports site), just a tragedy that someone lost a daughter/sister/etc.)
The Twitter feeds linked by goddam make it sound pretty bad for Davies in terms of the extent of his injuries. And all this after a very good run of form for the USMNT and what appeared to be strong contention for a starting role or first-off-the-bench role in South Africa. Sad.

Press release from USSF. It's also been confirmed that neither Davies or Roberta was the driver.

That's probably true from a media standpoint. This would probably just be local news if Davies wasn't in that car. For what's it's worth though, many of posters on soccer sites I frequent, twitter, etc. make note of Ashley and the other woman involved.

From the looks of that car, Davies and the other passenger are extremely lucky to be alive.

I can't imagine how fast you need to be going to split a vehicle in half like that.
If any other SpoFites happen to be going to the game tomorrow, there's going to be a salute to Davies in the 9th minute. It's sure to be an emotional night.

Grant Wahl seems to have the best up to date info. As does Stephen Gofff.
