Detroit does indeed have an NFL franchise.: Since December 23, 2007, the Detroit Lions have gone 0-19. However, today, September 27, 2009, is a new day for this NFL franchise as they have finally put a tick in the Win column. Sure, it was against the struggling Washington Redskins, but by this point in time, the name of the losing team is immaterial. Once again, the Detroit Lions win a regular season football game.
I guess I can wear that Lions jacket now.

It's about time. I had a good feeling about this game and I'm glad I wasn't wrong. Of course, it would have been classic Lions to blow the game in that last minute. They definitely came close.
That said, they definitely still will be amongst the league's worst this year.

I'm glad it came against the Redskins. Never liked them, their fans, or their smug owner.

Lions won, Vick played, Favre threw a touchdown in the dying seconds...is it 2006???
The Lions are boasting that they're as good as the defending SB champs today...
Detroit mayor Dave Bing announced that he's giving the key to the city to Jim Schwartz, for being the winningest coach during his mayoral term...
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock now must wait until at least game 2 of the regular season to have more wins than Schwartz this season...

The Lions are better than the defending SB champs....for today anyways.
While I do not expect them to have anything near a winning season, there is at least a little hope for the Lions. More than they've had in a long time.

Hope springs eternal in the Motor City. Detroit, for all its woes, has compiled an impressive series of powerhouse basketball and hockey teams that have won a lot of rings in the last two decades. Even the Tigers have been in the playoffs (I don't follow baseball, at all).
Oh, and the Redskins need to change their name and logo already, U of Miami (Ohio) did it, changed it to Redhawks and nobody is complaining. So for them to lose to a team that was 0-19 coming in is just karma.

One year and three days since the firing of Millen.
What the Lions did last year kind of made the Bucs angry. Winless seasons were supposed to be Tampa Bay's exclusive domain.
So this year the Bucs have decided to reclaim what is rightfully theirs.
Jim Zorn, watch your back. Back in the day, the winless Bucs beat the Saints and Stram got the hook. Then they beat the Cardinals and Coryell got the hook.
I wish the Lions were scheduled to play the Cowboys and Chargers.

And the Panthers.

I thought it was great how the players were giving high fives to the fans after the game. This was a big win for their fans as well. Actually, it was probably a bigger win for the fans, who were around for the losses while most of the players weren't.

It's a shame nobody from the Metro Detroit area got to see it on television. But from the looks of it most of the Lions games will be blacked out this season, with the exception of Thanksgiving and maybe the Steelers.
Of course if they start to win...

Great piece on NPR with Theo "Gridiron" Spight, the guy who leads the crowd in the Lions' fight song after each score and each win. Listen to that song!

Does this really deserve an FPP?
Yes, yes it does. It's good to see this franchise headed in the right direction, and it's good to see them take their first step against Those Who Shall Remain Nameless.
