Faith, family, football: Great story, great families, great town
Faith, family and football.
"The Sacred Acre," the field Ed Thomas compared to church when the stands were packed and the players were on the field . . . .
I wonder if a non-Christian could have played football for him.

Sacred: adj. Dedicated to or set apart for the worship of a deity. Worthy of religious veneration: the sacred teachings of the Buddha. Made or declared holy: sacred bread and wine. Dedicated or devoted exclusively to a single use, purpose, or person: sacred to the memory of her sister; a private office sacred to the President. Worthy of respect; venerable. Of or relating to religious objects, rites, or practices.
Obviously Ed Thomas was a Christian, but where in the definition of sacred or in the stories does it imply that all the students who played for him must be Christian?

Assuming that Ed Thomas was indeed a true Christian, he would have understood the message that Christ taught. Primarily, it was that the Pharisees who condemned everyone who didn't strictly follow their way, were absolutely wrong. Jesus put anyone who would believe in Him on His team. I would suggest that Mr. Thomas lived by this.
