Chuck Noll, the only coach with 4 Super Bowls rings: Did you know who he was or remember him? Maybe his players didn't either. Very interesting read.
Nice post, gfinsf, I learned a bit more about Chuck Noll than I had known previously. He was indeed a great coach, and in common with all of the great ones, he knew how to select "football players", not talented position players. I hadn't known that the Steelers had gone after Joe Paterno for the head coaching position. That he turned them down (as he turned down the Patriots) tells me that Joe Pa is a very smart man. He has all he wants or needs in State College.

I am glad someone posted this. I was going to, but I have been posting fanboy stuff all week! I have been a Steelers' fan all of my life and this story still revealed things I didn't know. Thanks, gfinsf.

One thing not mentioned in the article is the players called him THE EMPEROR. I was lucky enough to play in a golf outing for charity with him. Although he was in the foursome ahead of me, we got jammed up and he and I were talking and he got me a beer out of the cooler he had in his cart. I felt privileged to get a beer from THE EMPEROR. What a great guy he is. That's one person that deserved to be in The Hall of Fame.
