TIGER-CATS fire Head Coach Charlie Taaffe: "This has not been an easy situation for me," said Tiger-Cats general manager Bob O'Billovich. "I'm not in favour of making a coaching change in the middle of the season but the more I looked at it, Charlie was not the right guy for the situation as it stands now." At 2-8, the Tiger-Cats are tied with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the worst record in the CFL. During Taaffe's tenure in Hamilton, the Tiger-Cats have won just five times in 28 contests.

While Taaffe has a pretty respectable record as a coach overall, his time in Hamilton has not yielded positive results. They've got some talent, and they can play spoilers on any given night, but they just don't seem to come together. I'm not so sure that a young coach with no CFL head-coaching experience can right the TiCat ship, but I guess we'll see how he does. I am all for "new blood" in the HC ranks in the CFL though. I just can't imagine that the CFL print media are in favor of a guy named Bellefeuille ... try to spell that three times fast.

I watched a couple of recent games of the Ticats and they looked like they quit of Taaffe. Being a Rider fan since 84, I know what that looks like :-)

When a team quits, whether it is the coaches fault or not, it is easier to fire a coach than the entire team.
