In spite of his lack of coaching experience, Jack Del Rio has been hired to coach the Jacksonville Jaguars. "When you look a guy in the eye, and the chemistry is there, you know he's your guy," said team owner Wayne Weaver, clearly suffering from a mancrush.
I feel about Del Rio the same way I felt about Chan Gailey when he was hired in Dallas. One or two great years as a coordinator is not enough to show that someone would be a good head coach. The two situations are similar -- Gailey was hired after a bunch of other people turned down the Dallas job, and Del Rio was the fourth or fifth name that came up during Jacksonville's search. All in all, this seems like a gimmicky hire. Perhaps Weaver will get lucky and discover that Del Rio really can coach in the league, but I don't have any confidence yet in that likelihood.

So, rcade....you're saying he wasn't the man for the job? I've more of a wait and see attitude myself. This should prove to be different from Coughlin, for certain. What Del Rio lacks in coaching experience, he makes up for in enthusiasm and game intelligence. Now, as long as he can judge talent properly...
