McBride Joins Everton!: I know this is a few days old, but no one else had posted it and I thought it was kind of important. McBride is the only US World Cup player (so far) to go to Europe...and this is only for 3 months. I know there is a whole debate about Landovan and Beasley either staying in MLS to help it or go to Europe to represent. I don't have a formulated opinion on it really...I just hope the MLS keeps getting bigger either way.

Ufez, as a longtime United supporter (at least as far as MLS goes, pick DC Earnie!

Yeah, but you didn't post it on the front page! Nyah!

Trox, I dug the United as well when they had John Harkes (my fav. U.S. player ever). But now that I live in Dallas, I gotta go for the home team and see if Earnie can help bring some glory to town. Burn, Earnie Burn! um, I mean, Dallas, Earnie, Dallas!

I hope he comes to the Fire... And I hope the Fire build their own stadium soon!

The article I linked to, fucker, states that he's either going to the United or the Burn. The Burn could use their own stadium too, as the Cotton Bowl is a festering pile of crap.

btw, SF, what do you mean "McBride is the only US World Cup player (so far) to go to Europe?" What about Friedel (Blackburn), Keller (Spurs) and Reyna (Sunderland), who were all over there before the World Cup? And Donovan is on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, too.

I read that as the only U.S. based world cup player to parlay his play in the cup to some time in Europe. And don't forget John O'Brien at Ajax.

Thats how I meant i Trox... Since the success of the World Cup, McBride is the only mover...

Oh, and i knew that Ufez...i was just hoping the rumours aren't accurate...

Thanks, trox, for the clarification. btw, I'm just glad Clint Mathis wasn't part of that group. He was such an ass during the World Cup.

He did score a beautiful goal against South Korea though. I was almost convinced that Donovan would be moving back to Leverkusen given their current form.
posted by trox at 01:57 PM on January 08, 2003
Yeah, I liked that goal too... Oh my god! Did you guys realize that i called Landon Donovan, Landovan!??! Who the hell is Landovan!?!
posted by StarFucker at 02:02 PM on January 08, 2003
I thought it was on purpose. Landovan is the younger brother of Econovan, uncle of Minivan.

Heh heh...no, i'm not that clever...well, actually i am, but not in this instance. Liverpool 1-0...Mellor scored Kirkland is in goal, Carragher and Murphy are playing. Heskey will probably sub in any minute and Riise is on the bench! I hate the world.
posted by StarFucker at 03:36 PM on January 08, 2003
And it looks like we're going to lose it. Michael Tonge, whom Houllier was drooling over, has scored both goals to give the Blades a 2-1 lead. btw, thanks to the money from their unprecedented cup run, Sheffield will not be selling its players. Houllier is in a world of hurt. And why no Riise? Why?
posted by worldcup2002 at 03:51 PM on January 08, 2003
I KNEW IT!!! My god that is pathetic.... Well, thats it.... Unless they put Dudek back in, drop Murphy, Carragher and Heskey...i am no longer a Liverpool fan... I have had it!

I'll take suggestions for what team to switch to. I'm thinking maybe Sheffield Utd. Or (get this, FB!) Birmingham. I mean, in the EPL, aside from Arsenal (sorry, Dad) or Man U, who would be fun to support? West Ham? I hope they go down, now that they have Bowyer. Maybe Everton, maybe. But twenty years of supporting the Reds is kinda hard to overcome. I'm thinking maybe Manchester City. Some good fun attacking team. Everything Liverpool is not.

may I be the first, and almost certainly the last to recommend Aston Villa as your new club wc2002
posted by BigCalm at 01:36 PM on January 09, 2003
I hear Villa is as boring as Liverpool. I'll stick with the devil I know.
posted by worldcup2002 at 04:05 PM on January 09, 2003
I think i may switch to Everton...
posted by StarFucker at 04:18 PM on January 09, 2003
What?! Nobody has recommended Sunderland? *gasp*. In all seriousness though, at least Claudio Reyna plays a major role with them, though he's currently injured.
posted by trox at 05:31 PM on January 09, 2003
Fuck the reccomendations. I'm just so curious as to how somebody can change "loyalties" so flippantly. I thought it was all do or die, no?
posted by Ufez Jones at 11:39 PM on January 09, 2003
I thought it was all fun and games, yes?

When your favorite team is being run into the ground by a senile old fool, you tend to start questioning your loyalties... Gerard Houllier is causing me pain week after week. Its kind of like a girlfriend...how long are you going to put up with her nagging/flirting before you finally tell her to fuck off or go out with someone else?
posted by StarFucker at 08:31 AM on January 10, 2003
Gerard is your girlfriend?

You didn't know?! Stupid Houllier....ruining my team!

Exclusive! Revealed! Gerard Houllier is Peter Sellers

HA! Is that really him or a photoshop?

He scores 10 minutes into his debut. Well done Brian (though Kasey Keller may have different thoughts). On a fantasy sports aside, I'll take Keane's hat trick too... maybe I can gain some ground on StarFucker this week.
posted by trox at 12:00 PM on January 13, 2003
Too bad, I had Keane too...
posted by StarFucker at 12:53 PM on January 13, 2003
Congrats to Brian. I've never liked him much, but he's a damn fine player, especially on corners. That's one deadly head he's got. Also, in retribution, Earnie Stewart is leaving NAC Breda (Amsterdam) to join the MLS, playing for either the D.C. United or the Dallas Burn (pick dallas, earnie!).
