EPL Fantasy Pool 07-08 is open.: That 7 week vacation from Fantasy English Premier League distractions is now ending. Signups are open. First action Aug 11th. Three all new teams! No Thierry Henry! New team strip selecto-tool!

Last year we had a record 37 teams competing (or rather, a dozen teams competing and 25 others that had signed up and gradually lost interest). The access code is 8555-3294. Before joining the pool you must agree to make at least one transfer in the season to indicate your interest lasting beyond the four seconds it takes to join the pool. Thanks.

That's impressive. I got signed up to the SpoFi League automatically. How the hell did that happen?

posted by squealy at 07:16 AM on July 06, 2007

Dunno. I went to the "leagues" page and it asked me if I wanted to renew the Spofi 06-07 league (it let me update the name) and there was already one person from the league listed there, you. I am guessing that you are the the first of last year's players to have signed up for the pool at large. If there is a "renew your league" option for league admins, then maybe there is a "renew your participation in a league" option for players. Automagic.

Well I certainly didn't do anything, the SpoFi league just appeared in my leagues section suddenly. Drat, there goes my plan of seeming noncommital about the game this season to lull people into a false sense of security.

posted by squealy at 07:30 AM on July 06, 2007

Ah, it is there in the fine print of the "what's new" column. "After selecting your new team, league administrators will have the option of re-creating their private leagues from last season. Existing teams will then automatically join after picking their new teams."

Awesome, gspm! Thanks!

I'm in. Back to my old favorite Red Dragons. Picking Zizou Headbutters as my team name last season was just tempting fate. btw, that new team strip selector is more complicated than it needs to be. Too many moving parts (strip components that turn off and on depending what other component you picked first) plus that color picker looks to be built by someone with Photoshop envy (why do we need a color wheel with the promise of infinite colors? What if I want exactly the same red on each piece of the strip?). Unnecessary newness. Whippersnappers need to learn some design restraint.

C'mon, who's tselson elson? Who's D S? Use your SpoFi name or some semblance of it so we can at least guess.

Last year, D S was Fence, running the Fencers.

'Scores!! are back with a new look red kit, manager says he is determined to climb back into title contention after adding Fernando Torres for GBP21M.

Thanks for the clarifications, holden and gspm. D S needs to change his team or manager name to something that includes Fence.

Yeah, I'm DS, the fencers hasn't proved too successful, so I've decided to rebrand. Only I couldn't come up with a good name.

Fencester City? Fencerpool? Fencerton? Fencesitters Albion? Fences United? Nottingham Fencest? West Fence? White Picket Fences? Fencers Athletic?

Fenceburn Rovers? Fenceton Wanderers? Fenceboro? Fencerland? Fencerham Hotspurs?

:) Any more suggestions. I'll see about changing before the season begins.

I'm in later this week. Will let you know my new name to celebrate the return of the Rams to their rightful place. No, we're not re-opening the Baseball Ground, in case you were wondering. I will continue to seek mid table mediocrity

Thanks wc2k2, but the Derby Rams is already a rude in-joke, for anyone who knows about English folk songs.

owlie, I'm not so up on the English folk songs, especially those of the ovine ouevre. Perhaps ewe might share one example?

Maybe its me but I think its strange that of the three new ManU midfielders, Anderson and Nani have been assigned a price of 8.0 while Hargreaves, a proven veteran albeit a central player and not a winger like the other two, is at 6.5. Which reminds me, out of last year's regular rotation of Ronaldo, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Fletcher, Park and Richardson, who is losing playing time to the new boys? I've read that Keane wants to bring Richardson to Sunderland but what about the rest? Giggs and Scholes getting pushed aside by younger players, Fletcher showing he never will live up to SAF's expectations?

posted by billsaysthis at 04:18 PM on July 12, 2007

Yukon and I were talking about this, as the same thing happened last year: there were a bunch of new Premiership players who came in with a high cost and never dropped because no one sold them. Because no one bought them. I already sold Nani for some other new dude. I'm sure I'll get screwed.

Any of you gurus care to make predictions about who will be the most improved or have the biggest drop in the standings? The 3 relegation squads come next summer? The best of the newly promoted? Will Lampard regain his form of 05-06, or will Ladyboy run away with the points total again? Is Arsenal going to fall apart now that Henry is gone for good, or did they learn enough while he was injured to take a step away from being the smallest of the big four? I, for one, have not even a clue about any of the answers to my questions....so if any spofites would be so inclined.... Needless to say, I'm in; Phatcat FC, back in black (and orange)

I'll be vastly improved this year, since I actually (kind of) know what I'm doing from Week One, which will be a refreshing change from last season. Oh, you meant real teams, didn't you? Of course you did! Heh heh heh.

T_B_H, you're messing with my sly attempt to extricate information to aid us less informed footie fans. The first few weeks of the season are key to building a solid squad replete with underpriced performers and avoiding the over priced busts.

Voronin scored a pair in his debut last night against Werder Bremen and Riise had a cannonshot for the third goal, so I have to think the Reds will challenge for a top two spot this season, while Gunners haven't made enough positive changes to say the same. Though the transfer window is still open and anyone can get injured. Also, I wonder if the collection of egos at Stamford Bridge will be the undoing of Mourinho. Then again, my track record is fair from terrific.

posted by billsaysthis at 03:56 PM on July 18, 2007

Thanks Mr.bill. So it is ManU and the 'Pool fighting for the top spot? I can see that. It is tough to pick Liverpool strikers with the rotation Benitez seems to prefer, but alot of people have picked Torres. And what about ladyboy's countryman Nani? Will he be starting in the midfield, or is he still considered a prospect?
