Everyone hates me because I Mac...: Comment, then a question. As a Mac-user, I have found a strange issue with Spo-Fi when I use Safari -- the Bold/Italic/Link buttons just never appear when I am posting. The work-around has been to use Firefox instead -- they do appear there -- but I much prefer Safari overall as a browser, so if there's anything that can be done, that would be super. (This issue has existed since I joined in December, so it is not related to any recent Spo-Fi changes.) Second, I don't seem to be able to post pics/tables/etc. like other fancy posters -- is this a Mac thing, an "I don't know HTML" thing, a "You must be liked this much for special features" thing, or what? Hey, also, on review, I can't bold or link or anything in the Locker Room... even with Firefox.

Second, I don't seem to be able to post pics/tables/etc. like other fancy posters I'm pretty sure its an HTML thing but I'm not the one to give you answers. By the way, I noticed that the locker room post number is wrong in mine, Hal Incadenza, and I'm guessing in others profiles as well. Is this a result of when SpoFi was down? All I know is that I have more than 30 locker room comments.

From my understanding of similar previous occurences, SpoFi borks are almost always caused by the database holding the comments being full. The admins then proceed to backup the database, and delete a boatload of comments to make space. That seems to be what happened with the Locker Room. All posts older than February 2006 have been deleted. As for BullpenPro's problems, the solution is to learn HTML. The easiest way to learn HTML is to view the source of pages having tricks you want to reproduce. There are also a bazillion HTML tutorials online, but I can't recommend one in particular, sorry.

qbert72: I assume you mean the solution to the pics & tables issue and not the Safari issue (or do I need to re-write my browser software?). That pretty much answers my question -- I so much want to be able to just copy and paste into this little box, and I wasn't sure why it wouldn't let me do that. If that requires some HTML work, then I am off to get myself some schoolin'.

As for BullpenPro's problems, the solution is to learn HTML. Yep, that's my solution. I use safari. I'm not up on the specifics but it seems to balk at some features written on various websites (metafilter being one). Also, the user base of safari is small enough to often be ignored. But I never notice because I write out all my links, bold tags etc. Even if the buttons were there I wouldn't use them. (not saying it wouldn't be nice for others if they worked, and hopefully one day they will)

BullpenPro: the buttons you see in FireFox only input some HTML for you, nothing more. So if you learn HTML, you take care of everything at once. /posted from Safari Kids, don't try this at home.

I think I get it
Thanks for the help, guys.

<b>This is how you bold</b> <i>This is how you italicize</i> <a href="http://yourweblinksite.com">this is how you make a link.</a> <img src="http://yourweblinksite.com/funnyimage.jpg" /> (This will put an image on the page, but personally I think inline images on the site suck.) That's the basics, BullpenPro. You got lots of good advice here. Good luck! I am a Mac user too, and am using Safari. <small>this is how you make small text</small>

That's good advice as well, terrapin. but what confuses me is how in the world did you type the commands without having the commands DO the command?

& + lt + ; = < (lt stands for less than) & + gt + ; = > (gt stands for greater than)

The buttons don't work in Safari because the script that creates the buttons is fairly old and Safari doesn't support the JavaScript properties it relies on. There are workarounds. I'd be happy to try to create a more universal toolbar if the Pantheon would be interested in implementing it. I'd also be happy to fix the buttons so I don't have to click them once to get the to move over and then click again to get them to work.

I thought that was a feature -- my own posting video game where I have to shoot the button, and the prize is bold text.

How do I type that I'm laughing out loud without making the Northern Irish contingent think I'm claiming membership of a Loyal Orange lodge? On review - am I the Northern Irish contingent?

All I know is that I have more than 30 locker room comments. I noticed that, too. I know I've posted a couple of things to the LR, and have commented more than my count reads on my profile page.

I use Safari, too. I thought that Safari couldn't handle the JavaScript, but if there's a workaround we can use it.

On review - am I the Northern Irish contingent? My sister goes to Queens in Belfast, but that's about as close as I get. Maybe in an Alternative Ulster.
