p.s. the top 8 teams make the playoffs (starting in week 15). oh, and fair warning, on my lunch break i'll be spewing a mini rant about the f-ed scoring system. =)

I'll claim the concussions. I think we're the Arizona Cardinals of FFL - a sad assembly with a lone inexplicable win. Have you seen the really f-ed scoring system that awards points for completions, receptions, and carries? Two weeks ago when Lewis set the rushing record and got 2 or 3 TDs, he was less valuable than Tommy Maddox. IIRC. Something like that.

you don't remember correctly, Maddox got six points that week and Lewis got 26.

Catfish, will you be trading half your team next week in this league too?

In the traditional scoring system Lewis was higher. But in the f-ed up system, Maddox got 72 and Lewis got 41. Kelly Holcomb, who threw for 147 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs, scored 43 points. That's f-ed up.

wait..umm, Lewis in week 2 was going to be the thesis of my rant (which is still brewing, but is tempering into a tropical storm)...but what are you talking about mbd1? the top scores from week two: New England DEF: 30 Seattle DEF: 30 Lewis, Jamal: 26.00 Coles, Laveranues: 26.00 Holmes, Priest: 26.00 a RB has to carry the ball twenty yards to score a point. a WR has get 20 yards too ... the normal scale is 10 yards but that's fine. things get skewed however because the WR also gets a point for catching the ball. just plain wrong. the really f-ed part though is the kick return yards...they are also 20 yards per point!!! how is it that 20 yards from scrimmage can be equated to 20 return yards?...eek!

Cutting an pasting the scoring system from another yahoo league that I am in (NOT the SpoFi league): Completions (2) Passing Yards (20 yards per point) Passing Touchdowns (6) Interceptions (-2) Rushing Yards (10 yards per point) Rushing Touchdowns (6) Receptions (2) Reception Yards (10 yards per point) Reception Touchdowns (6) Return Yards (50 yards per point) Return Touchdowns (6) 2 Point Conversions (2) Fumbles Lost (-2) In this system QBs are far more valuable than RBs because of the points for completions. The average score in the 6 head to head matches this week was 168-137.

Catfish, will you be trading half your team next week in this league too? Well i tried to dump em before week 1 but had no takers. i did make 19 roster moves though. my team has been pretty lucky so far. i managed a tie week 1 because FDS had 2 injured players in his line up. week two i won by two. in week 3 i edged the show thanks to his wild receiver. espn has a decent photo(#6) of the swing but i can't seem to copy it.

So...#2 scoring, tied for 3rd place in record. Not too shabby so far. I'm still kinda pissed at Koren Robinson for getting himself benched Week 2. I might be 3-0 if not for that. Ah well...

Jeez..if I didn't draft the Tampa defence, I'd have been a laughing stock. Well, MORE of a laughing stock than I am now. I had ONE player score more than 6 points (Manning, 14) this week. Ugh. I am this league's Bengals. If I beat you, you should be ashamed of yourselves...

I'd like to say I'm good, but really I'm just lucky. Brad Johnson, Amani Toomer and Fred Taylor have been consistent scorers, and defense has been great. Next week is the big test - most of my top scorers have a bye week. My luck in this league is a pleasant distraction from the fact that the Niners have been beat twice in tight games...

just like the real thing, luck is definately a part of it but luck only helps if you're also good. now 3 straight wins doesn't really prove anything, but i'd take yr spot, dusted =). my rant kinda fizzled out, so i'm gonna whine today. 3 of the 5 receivers i drafted have been injured ... including my top 2 -- driver and porter -- who have yet to produce any numbers at all for me this season. a fourth receiver of the five, josh reed, looks like preseason hype bust. (and my kicker went down for the season, but big deal) so considering i've totally working with a group of waiver wire receivers and i'm only 3 spots out of the playoffs....i guess i'm not too screwed yet. oh, that reminds me of my other bit o' rant ... you can pick up players during their games!!!??? wtf! yahoo is the only system that does this...everywhere else rosters are locked beginning at some point before kickoff and lasting until tuesday. and the weaker teams get waiver priority. (yes, i'm bitter i missed my chance at boldin.)

Man... 'bout time I caught a break. Of course, there was some dumb luck involved-- my receivers combined for 69 points. Except that now Daunte Culpepper is hurt, and it looks like I'm going to have to start Mike Anderson b/c of Seattle's bye week, and just sort of hope that Portis leaves early again. It'll be okay as long as I can sneak into the playoffs. (Unlike last year's SpoFi league, when only 4 teams made it out of 20, and I started 7-1 and proceeded to lose 5 of my last 6 to finish in 5th place.)

Oh, if we're talking scoring systems, the system one of my other leagues uses, which is still my alltime favorite, is... 25 Passing yards = 1 point 10 yards from scrimmage = 1 point Touchdown = 6 points 2-pt conversion = 2 points INT = -2 points Fumble lost = -2 points (fractional points are allowed) I got in an argument with some people in another league last year about counting receptions (I was the only one against it, but they saw it my way this year). Basically, my premise was that by counting receptions (especially in our league where they count for a full point), we're awarding the same amount of points to a 0-yard reception as to a 20-yard run. The system we have really devalues RBs, I feel. Not that I can really complain so far since my team is the top scoring...

This was posted in another FF forum by my fiance but thought it was so funny I had to share: Dear Donovan*, I know we haven't been together very long, but I'm having a lot of doubts about where our relationship is going. I like you, I guess, but you really don't seem to understand that I have needs and wants, and I need and want you to be the guy to fufill them for me. Maybe we didn't talk about what we expected from each other, and I guess I'm to blame for that. I try really hard not to compare you to my ex-boyfriend Brett*, but you just don't seem to measure up to him. Also, I've been seeing this guy Jeff* on the side. He pleases me in ways that you just can't or won't, and I just thought I should be honest with you about that. I mean, I thought he wouldn't be anywhere near as good as you, and though he can disappoint me, it's not like I didn't know he wasn't full of faults. But you, Donvan, were supposed to rock my world, and you don't. And I've decided that maybe we would be better off seeing other people. There's this hot guy named Jake* that I spent an amazing weekend with and I think there's a lot of potential there with him. Let's just be friends for now and see how it goes, okay? Don't be hatin', K *McNabb, Favre, Blake, Plummer

* dano covets his neighbor's wife(-to-be) maan, the curse of WR has struck me again. i finally get some production outta the position...but they're both riding the bench this week. still, i post my best score yet, and still i come out a loser. why? because, yet again, an opponent's middle-tier (at best) WR found the end-zone multiple times. (Chambers week 1, Reggie Wayne and Andre Johnson week 3, Chad Johnson this week.) i predict big things for David Patten next week.

Here is the standings table, more or less cut and paste from Yahoo. I made an attempt to correlate team names to spofi users ... some were complete guesses and some I had no idea. Please post corrections and I'll get it right next time.
