Your trade was some kooky arrangement like Manny and Barry Zito for Pedro and a bag of oranges!

I have great pitching. I think. I can't believe I didn't get Josh Phelps in the draft, I ranked him 29th on my list, I was sure that was be high enough. Stupid autodraft. I need a catcher. I have Mo. It's going to be a great year.

jersey - you turned down a bag of oranges??? But, they leave no marks after a beating...I just don't get you people sometimes ;-)

Why did I have to be the first pick? I think my team is the weakest out of them all.

i didn't expect a-rod to go first pick in the first round.

ARod is the most obvious choice for first-pick-first-round. Monster hitting numbers in a (traditionally) weak position will do that. He's EASILY the best hitter at shortstop, with Garciappara, Tejada and Jeter well behind him. After that, it gets REAL ugly at the position in the American League (I can't speak for the NL that well). The other two positions with big drop offs are 2B and C. But the numbers being produced by the best players at that position are nothing compared to what ARod does. I had him listed #1, and I had those 4 SS listed in my top 10 (with some pitchers and a catcher and 2B). Outfield, starting pitching, 1B and 3B are the easiest to fill later in the rounds. You might not have the best, but the bell curve of talent allows you to fill those positions with players who might be only a bit worse than the tops at the position. Relief pitching is almost always a crap shoot, especially when dealing with made up numbers like saves. You can predict who will be slotted into the ficticious "closer" role, but an injury or 3 blown saves and you suddenly are getting ZERO points. I generally stick to the best pure pitchers that aren't starters and just punt the saves category (if there is one). The one other bit of strategy I used in making up my auto-draft list was to give preference to multi-positional players. Being able to move a bench guy to many different positions (because of injuries) makes him very valuable.

A-rod is clearly the #1 pick, I agree. That "Bag of Oranges" was Bobby Higginson. And I'm not sure the gap between him & Manny is much more than the gap between Zito & Pedro. Pedro is *much* better than everyone, except Randy Johnson and maybe Mussina if he bounces back. I think. I will also send you some real oranges.

Yes, Pedro is better than Zito, but Zito is right up there in the top 3 in the AL. Very comfortable rank, if you ask me. However... Manny and Higginson? They played approximately the same amount of games last year (with injuries both of them) and here's how they stacked. Higginson: 119 Games 50 runs 10 HRs 63 RBI .282 avg .762 OPS Manny: 120 Games 84 runs 33 HRs 107 RBI .349 avg 1.097 OPS Manny has had a fantastic spring training, thus far. Higginson isn't bad at all, but all things considered, I'd put my money on Ramirez, really.

One question...Why is it that we have two first basemen and four outfielders in a 16 team league? Not trying to complain, but i don't see any reasoning behind it...

i agree, jmd82, it's weird. But it's not our show!

jerseygirl, I was trading you upside! And Higginson was injured, and will steal. And Pedro is much, much better than everyone except Randy Johnson. Anyway, yes, of course you're right. catfish, can I have mo?

higginson and ramirez were both injured. imagine the numbers manny would have put up if he had an entirely healthy season. no harm no foul :) everyone wants to trade for zito, it seems!

Obviosuly, because he's underrated. Jerseygirl, I'm just giving you an oppurtunity to "Buy Low, Sell High" and have Pedro on your tieam! How can you pass it up?

Do people think I am foolish about this stuff, because I am a girl?

dj I'd kill that trade even if she accepted it, you'll get nothing past the commish. The 4 outfielders, and two first basemen makes life interesting.

I need a catcher and have outfielders to offer in a multiplayer deal, along with a starter or relief pitcher. I also totally forgot about, but I like my team, except for (dant dant dahhhhhhhhhhhhh) Toby Freaking Hall!

Do people think I am foolish about this stuff, because I am a girl? No! Of course not. I was giving you an opportunity to get Pedro Martinez, the best pitcher in the game.
