Spurred on by Marc's post in the sidebar, how exactly are us ordinary users supposed to submit potential columns? The amount of sports knowledge and history here is frankly scary. I think that it would be great to see a few columnists for each sport, ie: owillis: Redskins v. Cowboys- game of the Century? anyoneelse: Redskins v. Cowboys- why didn't they join the XFL?

I don't want to sound secretive or rude, but, as I said, stay tuned. It may take us some time, but we'll have a system set up where you can send a column to me via e-mail (probably) or to an off-line/temporary part of SpoFi, I will edit it (very lightly, more for appropriateness of topic and language than grammar and viewpoint) and then post it live. Posting columns by members is just another way that "mi SpoFi es su SpoFi". Feel free to use this thread to hash out some ideas you'd like to write about.

We should have regular columns, like weekly or bi weekly or something, and they should be about Anna Kournikova or other attractive up and coming athletes getting more attention than they would otherwise(male or female), with the theme being the relationship between sports, sex, and entertainment (ostensibly).

Great idea, insomnyuk. Maybe it could all be done in pictures? Big, glossy ones?

I volunteer to do the "research".

Well, that looks like enough of a consensus to me! I second the motion to appoint owillis as "researcher".

I'd like to popularize soccer, particularly the way it's played in the Premier League in England. I will do this by starting a fantasy league of up to 50 SpoFi folks (first come first serve) and then do weekly reports to SpoFi highlighting the movers in the fantasy league, as well as particularly good games and players. This will be as much about the stats (which US sports fans love) as about the sport. I hope to kick so much ass that I'll just be writing about myself. hahahaaha.

Socratic dialogue about the Leafs, perchance? Or maybe that scope would have to be broadened a bit...

I'd like to contribute articles about the relationship between sports and business. Not that I have any more expertise than anyone else, it's just that it's a particular curiousity of mine. I'd in no way want to discourage others from writing about specific big stories, such as baseball labor issues, or contracts or stuff. I'm interested in more researchy kind of stuff, such as five years later how much has or hasn't Safeco Field contributed to the Pacific Northwest Economy. Oh, and boxing. Love to write about the sweet science.

vito90...I like your ideas.

msacheson, thanks. For an entrepreneurship class last year I set up a hypothetical curriculum that could be used to teach a twelve-week 300 level undergraduate sports economics course. My curriculum incorporated finance, accounting, micro- and macroeconomics, operations management, etc. I never used it other than for the class but I have a wealth of material saved and I have been looking for an excuse to do some writing that could be useful down the road. Your idea might help be achieve some stuff. Might be interesting for people to write little regional stories...a member from France could give us little anecdotal stories on the Tour coming through their town, somebody in Milwaukee could give fan reaction on the all-star game, the British Open is coming up, so somebody there could be (wo)man-on-the-street etc. But whatever you come up with I'd be pleased to contribute.

I would love to pontificate on the state of professional hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs, if I had the time. Maybe even talk a little basketball :)
