University of Phoenix gets naming rights to Cardinals stadium: The Arizona Cardinals played for 18 years at a college stadium in Tempe. Now the University of Phoenix, the nation's largest private university, will pay the NFL team $154.5 million over the next 20 years to put its name on the Cardinals' new home.

It doesn't pay to punt: Once again this weekend the NFL landscape was littered with Preposterous Punts. Trailing 24-3, San Francisco punted on fourth-and-1 on the Philadelphia 40. Even the great Bill Belichick ordered a punt from the Broncos' 35.

People seriously need to get over the Colts leaving Baltimore in the middle of the night. It was a long time ago, and it simply doesn't matter now. Get a life.

I knew A League players didn't get paid a lot, but this is one way to make up for it that I never would have dreamed up.

Good point diastematic. I'm a big baseball fan, but building a new stadium here just doesn't make any sense when we'd likely draw a crappy team in the first place. Rose Garden is all ready to go. You're right, and I've been saying this for years, it's a no brainer. While I do love going to baseball games, Triple A just doesn't cut it for me. I like the Winter Hawks, too, but I'd do almost anything to have an NHL team in the Rose Garden than the WHL. I think the city, both the government side and the general populace, would feel a hell of a lot better about getting behind an NHL team than an MLB team. It just makes more sense all the way around. I say bring 'em on.

Portland...Oregon. (Maine can keep its AHL team.) I'm amazed that there is no West Coast team between San Jose and Vancouver. NorCal, Oregon and Washington is one heck of a gap... I've thought about this a lot. The Rose Garden is most definitely NHL ready. However, Portland has the WHL's Winter Hawks (which has high caliber players) who have a pretty loyal following. It's still juniors, though, so I say bring on the big dogs. Since the allegedly anti-hockey Paul Allen no longer has anything to do with the Rose Garden's management a stronger case could be made for bringing an NHL team to Portland and moving the WHL team elsewhere. A couple of issues still linger: - Would Portland support an NHL team? - Would bringing the NHL to Portland interfere with the City's desire to bring in a Major League Baseball team (thus shelving any serious talks about the NHL)?

I guess you are what your record says you are. I like this one: "They are better than their record shows."

Having the most wins is no exoneration for past poor behavior. No one was giving him a pass for his past behavior. However, name one coach who hasn't exhibited "poor behavior" even once in their career. Name one coach who hasn't grabbed a player or gotten in their face to get them focused or fired up. People tend to overemphasize a few situations where Knight lost his cool and just never forgive or forget about them. If you don't get on a player's back once in a while they're not going to learn and they're not going to be effective.

There is more to greatness than winning. People like Knight (and his fans) will never get that, though. This couldn't be further from the truth. I've had the privilege of meeting Coach Knight on several occasions from the years that I attended Indiana University. The man isn't the most outwardly nice person you'll ever meet, but he does understand what it takes to be a great player, and, more important, a great student and person.

One of the most expensive BART tickets the Giants organization has ever purchased for an employee. This move was smart, especially since Schmidt is gone. However, the Giants have made several other mistakes in personnel choices so far in the off-season. Re-signing Bonds was only one of them.

I agree the situation is BS. However, Texan, it is a subject worthy of conversation. Sorry to shatter your few hours of pride about an internet forum. If it was any other coach this certainly wouldn't have mattered. I'm glad the player and his parents have been so forthright about this "situation".

Zidane to bite Big Apple?
I'd be willing to bet Zidane can still outplay almost anyone in the MLS today. Does that mean he should come over here and play? No. He's had a brilliant career, and in my opinion it would be tarnishing that legacy to play in the U.S. at this point in his life. Stay retired, my man. You've already done it all.
