2 UCONN Basketball Players Arrested For Theft

In every industry and every environment there is good and bad. the punks and thugs mentality statement pertaining to professional or college athletics is unwarranted. It's so convenient to publicize the wrongdoings that occur but how often do we see the stories of the underprivleged kid who DOES make a change for the better, that never gets involved in trouble? not often enough, because that doesn't make for big headlines and discussions like these! I, too, work with kids both male and female, some that come from homes/families with situations you probably couldn't imagine, but certainly would put you on your knees thankful for what you do have. The "product of my environment" theory is a cop-out for the most part. If a person wants to make a change in their lives they can and will. But it is also very easy to sit in a Lay-Z-Boy and criticize or say what you would or wouldn't do given a situation you're not familiar with I also seem to recall that kids from good homes/families in the suburbs, with wealthy parents, that want for nothing, commit crimes as well!! As one reader pointed out elite athletes come from good areas as well, not just the inner cities. So although it was a stupid thing to do and by no means does it warrant just a slap on the wrist, step back and look at the big picture.

Schools consider appeals to NCAA

at least there's some foundation and history linked with the colleges and there choices of nicknames, in most cases. Some of theses institutions go back 100+ years. I'm more offended by professional teams that choose to use a person's heritage, or ethnicity, i.e. Washington Redskins, with no regard to how Native Americans feel or if they are offended. once again, the NCAA has missed the boat.

Outfielders Collide Diving for Catch

you're right g-dam, plus Cameron still has that centerfield mentality. he's still a centerfielder playing in right and insticts just take over!

He Hate Them

easy on the cowboys hatred, chico, (Dallas fan for life)!! seriously, though, it's natural to have a dislike/hatred for some franchises, but usually there is some merit to it, i.e. rivalries. I can even understand disliking teams that win all the time as i did for so long to the Steelers back in their heyday, but this guy's rationale is skewered for sure, notice he narrowed it down to 10!! even though i think some of it tongue-in-cheek. But the Favre bash is totally out of bounds!!

He Hate Them

this guy obviously has a PHD- Player Hater Degree- and is taking it to the extreme...what's his problem; was he cut from every team he ever tried out for and trying to exact some sort of revenge? I can think of a chant for him," A-S-S H-O-L-E!!! yea!

REJECTED

I agree there must be something to the Nash factor. Last I looked Atlanta still hasn't addressed the point guard issue, and there aren't many like Nash to begin with. The Hawks are a team full or players with "potential" at best! Young players that haven't really proven themselves yet. We all know how dangerous that "P" word is! But there is virtually no chance of Johnson staying in Phoenix. Although it's easy to look at the Nets now and say what a bonehead decision they made, what if Shareef does have knee problems 1-2 yrs down the road?! Who's the idiot then. I'm sure the Alonzo fiasco has made them a little cautious, granted maybe too cautious.

Ricky Williams: 'I Never Really Was Away

I don't have a problem with Ricky being a flake, Weedy. In fact i think people who are a little different are actually good for sports. The problem and difference between a T.O., Manny Ramirez and Ricky is for all of T.O.'s distractions and Manny being Manny, is they never left their teams hanging and quit on them at the last minute without much of an explanation. that IS harmful to his teammates! In a team sport setting that is the ultimate betrayal. In an individual sport it's no-harm-no-foul.

Ricky Williams: 'I Never Really Was Away

maybe he can be the NFL version of a talented, misunderstood player in another sport and say, "That's just Ricky being Ricky"

...you'll catch no hell here Texan!... It's a little disappointing that ESPN now seems to be more about the E than the S. WSoP can be interesting bet it is E(ntertainment) not S(port). You'd think they could allocate a few of those hours for real sporting events such as the track & field championships; maybe that would help generate some interest more often than every 4 yrs in the olympics!

Coyotes Appear Set To Name Gretzky New Coach

Larry Robinson was a great player but only moderate success as a coach although he won a stanley cup he still had a below .500 coaching record. Fact is most of the "elite" athletes don't do well as coaches; maybe it's their expectations of others or maybe the players they coach are intimidated by their greatness, who knows. But these greats have earned the right to try their hand at whatever they want given the great memories they've provided us.
