Committed athlete or athlete that should be committed?

Reminds me of the story of Larry Alford II , a nationally-ranked junior golfer who lost his arm in an automobile accident. This only proved to be a minor setback as he has continued to strive toward competing professionally on tour.

Brilliant or Ridiculous?!?

Brilliant! sort of like a modern day tale of ordinary folks "seizing the day" and making their lives extraordinary.

"Every Thang's Going To Be All White."

"Fighting whities" is not at all offensive, but perhaps if they called the team the "Lynching Whities" with a picture of a guy holding a noose, then that might be a problem.

The latest report says that Rivera is actually Surprised at the decision the Yankees made to cut him. Go figure.

Sir Charles Unchained.

I think that there’s an equally large amount of very successful blacks in business, the sciences the arts etc. But since the media for the most part elevates and glorifies athletics, sports and entertainment through massive advertising and promotion, many young black kids, as a result, are instilled with the false perception that the best way to move up is through those mediums.

Is this

I think of this as more of a spectacle or circus.

Danostuporstar, You're reading too much into the post. This is a legitimate debate that has been going on for years and I feel that it is worthy of inquiry. And since it relates to one of the great sports magazines, I feel that it is appropriate to discuss. For those that are wondering "what debate" Here are just a few of the links where the debate or those with opposing view points concerning the subject can be found.  HERE .... HERE  ... HERE ... HERE . Those that oppose feel that it is women's athletic achievements that should be glorified rather than reducing women to body parts. You can either agree or disagree, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But think first before you put your foot in your mouth.

Kobe is now the MAN.

Only time will tell, Even if the torch is passed, he has a long way to go. He will have to maintain his level of play and leadership for years to come in order to live up to the MJ legacy.

The role of subjectivity in sport

Unfortunately, even if the judges are found to be in collusion after a review of the incident, the Russians will not be stripped of their gold medal. The worst that can happen is that the judges will be suspended.

The Sporting news wants you to pay $24.95 for NFL Draft (?!?) coverage.

I'd rather figure the $24.95 into my beer budget.

Jamaica: Olympic Hopeful?

The team has continued to improve, they won gold last year at the the World Push Championships in Monte Carlo and posted impressive start times at the World Cup. Determination and hard work has paid off. The Jamaican bobsled team is now performing at a level necessary to win and are now serious contenders for medals.

Michael Jordan walks on water

MJ continues to do what he does best. The pundits can say what they want but in the end, the stats will speak volumes for the man's legacy.

Patriotism and its place

I think that the spirit of global harmony that the Olympics represent will prevail. We can also expect the familiar themes of rivalry among countries, great showmanship, world record achievements etc. So, let America show her colors and let’s enjoy the games.

Lewis must fight Tyson

The promoters and managers don't really care if Mike loses the fight, his mind or his freedom as long as they get to fatten their wallets. It's all about sensationalism, the more of it there is, the bigger the gain for all involved.
