When Octopuses Are Flying in Detroit It's . . . : The secret to throwing a large octopus onto an ice hockey rink is to boil it first for 20 minutes on high heat with a little lemon juice and white wine to mask the odor.
Fun article ... but is it really from 1996? I would think that doesn't meet the guidelines.

While it doesn't seem to be against the rules, it isn't anything new. The only thing worse than an undercooked octopus is one that is well past its freshness date. pew. BTW, the Guidelines are now part of the SportsFilter wiki.

The next team to defeat the Red Wings in a playoff series should have a fan throw a bag of octupi beaks on the ice....cause its crazy those slippery suckers have beaks. Just crazy. But it would have to be from a giant octupus.

Boil for 20 minutes at high heat? Unless they've greatly changed the laws of science since I was in Junior High, once water starts to boil, it stays at 212 degrees F (100 C for the rest of the world). It doesn't matter whether the heat is high or low, as long as there is water left, it's at 212. This alone makes the article somewhat fishy.

Does it really matter if it is old? It fosters discussion and is a fine article. The discussion on this article will end much better than the article about Vick's sentencing.

"People wanting to have fun is one thing, but when it's at an animal's expense, it's not funny," said Michael V. McGraw, a spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. "What's next, dead kittens or dead puppies?" This quote could be put in both articles.

A raw dead octopus is a smelly ball that will stick to the ice on impact and often leave an inky stain. Don't you just hate it when that happens? Who knew there was such an art to throwing an octopus onto the ice. Cool article, bobfoot I got a real good laugh.
