Thanks, a good article although a bit vague about "what it all means and what are the future implications?". I watched a bit of the Desert Open on TV last year, and wondered where all the spectators were on the final hole. Then I realised they were all behind the plate glass corporate boxes in full air conditioning. The article didn't mention the indoor artificial ski slope, also in Dubai. My first experience of Dubai was in transit to and from the Palestinian Territories, where I had been working with some humanitarian agencies. I must admit to a large dose of culture shock on the way back. When a large part of the developing world doesn't have access to clean drinking water, and some Pacific islands are going under due to rising sea levels, I find this sort of thing appalling. /off high horse
